Dependencies

Tasks, information, or events that must be completed or available before another task can begin or be completed.

Dependencies are the tasks, information, approvals, or results that must be completed or received before another task can begin or be considered finished. In a month-end accounting close, dependencies show the correct order of work—for example, account reconciliations may need to be completed before financial statements can be prepared. Identifying these dependencies helps the accounting team track progress, avoid delays, and prevent unfinished work from extending the close into the following month.
